NCJW Southern Maine Section offers a variety of programs and events to enrich and enhance the lives of our members. We have heard Portland Symphony Orchestra Music Director Robert Moody talk about his path to the podium. Chief Justice Leigh Ingalls Saufley of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court discussed women in the judiciary, and Maine State Senate President Justin Alfond (D-Portland) reviewed legislation affecting women, children and families in Maine. We have learned how to bake citrus tarts from a professional dessert chef, practiced a dozen ways to tie a scarf with a fashion consultant, toured a distillery, quizzed a retirement planning expert, and enjoyed wine and cheese at an art gallery. Fund-raising events range from low-key appeals by mail to full-blown silent auctions.
The section hosts two major meetings each year. Our fall members’ luncheon usually features a prominently known speaker. Our annual meeting in early summer includes announcement of scholarship awards, a report on the past year’s events, and installation of officers and board members.
