For more than 90 years, NCJW Southern Maine Section has provided direct service to women, children, and families in need. With a pioneering spirit, our efforts helped to establish Head Start in Maine, the Opportunity Alliance, the Jewish Community Alliance, the Portland Public Library Bookmobile, and other now familiar civic institutions.
Today, our volunteers are entrenched in the community – reading to children in school, providing backpacks to kindergarteners, delivering personal items to women fleeing domestic violence, handing out scholarships to college students, helping immigrants tell their stories. For those looking to give back, NCJW offers volunteer opportunities that fit everyone’s needs and schedules. Our focus, always, is supporting women, children, and families as we strengthen our community.
